KDE Search & Launch Layout Questions
Loving this feature but had a couple of questions. As searched google and didn't find any answers. 1) Top Wide transparent panel at the top. Able to adjust the width? Mine is like a full 2" and a bit of overkill or a way to remove altogether? 2) Remove or Resize the System Settings or Dolphin icons on that panel or add other's? 3) Icons in middle of screen. Adjustable Size or Positioning of Icons? As would be nice to put them up higher or way lower. If not any plans down the road for those abilities? Thanks for any info is appreciated. . |

I haven't used the Search & Launch layout, but I think you can add and remove icons such as the System Settings and Dolphin ones by right clicking on them and selecting the relevant entries. You should be able to add new entries through drag and drop hopefully.
Assuming the panel you have at the top is a standard panel, it should have a cashew on the right most side of it (when widgets are unlocked) which will allow you to access the panel controller, and change the height of the panel (or remove it). If the panel is part of the Search & Launch layout however, this may not be possible.

removing icons - hovering over the icon should cause a red "-" to show just click it and it will be removed

Thanks for the info and yep was able to remove the Settings & Dolphin icons.
But no go on adjusting top panel width or removing as really don't need that. Just the Search text entry and results on desktop is all that is needed. So the empty panel can't be re-sized or removed which is a bit annoying. But if I continue to use it's no deal breaker but would be nice to at least be able to shrink the width down as impacts look & feel of desktop. Thanks for your assistance. Update: When I rebooted the System Settings & Dolphin File manager icons were restored to panel. Doesn't seem that this specific panel follows the rules for other panels. . |

Weird. If you try the same under a new user (logging out should be enough to trigger this) then are the icons removed there?

Don't want to mess with my system and add a new user and such.
Using Linux Mint 14 KDE backports enabled running 4.10.2 64bit. . But have swapped to default then back to Look & Feel. Delete Panel Icons Settings & Dolphin then lock widgets. Logout then back in and they still come back. Reboot and they still come back. Have deleted them 3 or 4 times they always return. . |

Unfortunately it is not possible to determine if this is caused by an old user configuration setting your user has or a bug in KDE without a test in a clean environment - hence the new user.
The best I can recommend here is setting up a new activity (after removing any other Search & Launch activities) and seeing if that activity is affected as well.
