After upgrade to KDE 4.10.2 freezes after loading two icons on the progress bar. This is content of xsession-errors
when I delete the ~/.kde folder then workspace manages to start. The successfull start log looks quite the same, except next line after those above is this one:
So, the error might be connected to kded... |

Were you able to switch to another VT and see if KDE was stuck waiting for a particular process to complete?
If you left it for a while, did it eventually complete the login? The fact that Bluedevil was started indicates that the application startup phase had been completed - so it may simply have been that the splash was not being killed, or that Plasma Desktop was hanging during startup.

I've managed to solve it by creating a new user account. I guess I can still reproduce the problem, I'm just not sure for which processes I should be looking for. Is there a documentation of KDE startup sequence?

With old ~/.kde folder KDE won't finish logging sequence.
Here's ps aux |grep kde:
The problem seems to be in zombie process [start_kdeinit_w] <defunct> Grepping defunct processes I get this:
Which config files are loaded by setxkbmap? Could setxkbmap crash start_kdeinit_w? |

It looks like zombie processes are not getting cleaned up properly for unknown reasons. Were there any other KDE related processes of note, such as those which may be hung in a "D" (or blocked) state.
I'm not sure why this is occurring unfortunately.
