Hello,
Sometime in the last month during an update, this thing started appearing in my taskbar: ![]() I have seen it in my other KDE installations, but somehow I was fortunate enough to get rid of it at one point in this system (Fedora 17 KDE), but now it is back. At the same time, this file transfer notifier (which would appear when transferring files with Dolphin) went away: ![]() Does anyone know how I might go about getting rid of the thing in the first image, and bringing back the thing in the second image? I'm sorry I don't know the specific names of these components, but maybe they will look familiar to you. Thanks for any suggestions. |

You should be able to disable this behavior if you select the system tray options and then uncheck "Notifications" from the list of the applets.

If you still wish to get the new look notifications (instead of the older ones which show at the top of the screen) then you should right click on the Notifications applet > Notifications Settings, and make sure "File transfers and jobs" is unchecked.
In either case, you do need to log out and back in again after removing or changing the settings of the notifications applet to ensure the changes are fully propagated. If you don't do this, then file transfers will not be shown, nor will notifications (if you remove the applet).

Thanks Einar and Bcooksley, I was able to get rid of the taskbar notifier.
Unfortunately, I still don't have the "transfer progress" thingy available. There is a pop-up that appears *after* a file is transferred, but is there any way to get the one back that is in the second image? I really liked being able to see the progress, and the speed of the transfer in that popup. Thanks! |

Please make sure all notification applets have been removed (or had their settings adjusted to disable job tracking), and ensure you have logged out and back in after removing it - otherwise nothing will be shown.

Hi Bcooksley, sorry if this exposes my ignorance, but how to I remove notification applets?
I did log out after I set the taskbar notifier to "hidden", but that's obviously not the same as removing it. |

The steps to remove the Notification applet are detailed in this post - viewtopic.php?f=66&t=111140#p264670

Bah! Thanks bcooksley, and einar; I should have caught that the first time through.
It's working the way I like it now, and I greatly appreciate the hand holding. |
