I just installed OpenSuse 12.3 with KDE 4.10. For some reason, in several zoom levels the oxygen folder icon is replaced with an old (I think) crystal icon. It happens across the whole KDE (Krusader, Dolphin...both are affected). I tried to run Dolphin under different user (I tried root) and it worked as expected. For all zoom levels the oxygen icon was used. It must be something in my profile, but the profile is completely fresh. Any ideas?

try cleaning out ~/.kde4/share/icons and restart Donphin
if that doesn't work run:
and then restart Dolphin |

Hi,
I do not know where icon themes are setted in OpenSuse but I had the same issue in Chakra. I solved by purging the other icon theme (in your case Crystal) from /usr/share/icons and then restarting dolphin. If I am not wrong in OpenSuse the icons folder should be in ~/.kde4/share/icons |

try reinstalling all Oxygen packages (search in Yast sw manager)

I forced Yast to reinstall Oxygen icons... but nothing changed. I also tried to scan the whole hard drive for images named *folder*. The crystal folder icon was found only as a part of krusader package. I tried to delete it, but it is still there. I suppose the icon has a different name... but I really don't know, it's very weird.

"fresh profile" ='s deleted ~/.kde4 or new user? if not new user can you create and test a new user
icons should be in /usr/share/icons/Oxygen if findutils-locate and findutils packages are installed (and db populated) do:
the result should be:

See my post above. It's fixed now. Imho it was really some kind of caching problem.

Just in case this recurs, another location where icons are stored is the XDG specification local-user directory, at ~/.local/share/icons/

Unfortunately, this problem came back after upgrading to OpenSuse 13.1 with KDE 4.11.4. For certain zoom levels a wrong folder icon was displayed. I checked that the required file folder.png was present for all sizes in the Oxygen time. The problem is that this time the described trick didn't work.
I copied the folder.png file out of the theme directory into my home directory and set it manually as the icon for the type "folder". I was able to choose only one size of the icon so as the result the folder icons look a little bit blurry when they are downscaled/upscaled. But at least they are now consistent with the rest of the icons. |

I had the same problem and was able to solve it by deleting /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/icon-cache.kcache.
