Hey folks,

since last reboot / update, my desktop starts veeeeeeheeery slow.
It takes about 2 minutes to loaded.
However i've noticed some errors and i would be really glad, if someone could help me fix the stuff:

Couldn't find node horizontal-slider-shadow. Skipping rendering.

Next strange thing:
The symbol for the akku is marked as not working (has a red cross over an empty battery).
I deleted it from the panel and then reaktivated it. Wich made the plasma-interface hang for quite a while.

Also when unplugging the power cable and replugging it, the mouse stops working, while the touchpad still is working.
Replugging the mouse makes it work again.....

I really dont know what this is....

This problem is being caused by a system service, UPower, not responding to KDE requests for information. This is why information concerning the battery and charger is not available to Plasma Desktop.

Please make sure "upowerd" is running on your system. If it is not, then it is likely that D-Bus automatic startup is failing for some reason, in which case you need to contact your distribution. If it is running, then the problem is likely with system bus access policies, which are set by your distribution usually - so you'll need to contact them again i'm afraid.

This is absolutely strange...

seconds later, i noticed that my macbook also doesn't to suspend, when i close the lid.
So i tried it via the kde menu. then the screen went black and nothing worked anymore (blinking curser + backlight still on).
I rebootet, renamed .kde4 and .... everything went well... battery, sleep, fast start, etc...
so i renamed my old kde4 folder to .kde4 and now everything works again???? how is that possible? what was the cause??

It could have been a one off fault - and the reboot you performed corrected the issue.

The lack of inability to suspend is likely also caused by being unable to contact UPower, as it is involved in that as well I think. Otherwise, it could have been a similar issue - the same underlying fault which broke UPower also broke the suspend system.

If plasma crashes/error and you end up with an empty black screen,
do not add or change anything.
Kill X (killall X) and put this in an executable in your ~/.kde4/Autostart/

This will retrieve the configuered desktop of an existing user.
You may need to adjust the sleep parameter to a higher/lower value.
Note. This worked for when starting KDE with startx. It is not tested with kdm.
