Lost Minmize/Maxmize/Close buttons

Sat Sep 14, 2013 4:32 pm
Hello folks,

Quite new to the kubuntu/kde scene so please bear with me.

I've rebooted and I've lost my "Window" borders. I may have done something silly however.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

I then rebooted and now I don't have any buttons. What can I do to remedy this situation?

Thanks,

alex.

Sadly this is one of the things that I have already tried, I've tried again and not had any success. I've also tried enabling and disabling desktop effects but to no avail.

I managed to get my window manager back by doing:
Code: Select all
kwin --replace

Thanks for the help.

I had to do a repair from grub to get the menu back .. somehow both my machines when updated from 4.10(LM15) to 4.11 using ubuntu backports had no (min, max, close) buttons .. i read somewhere that its because of a faulty upgrade of plasma and can be done by repair from grub .. anyway this is what i did ..

*Rebooted
*Booted into repair mode from grub
*Enabled Networking
*used dpkg for repair
*everything was fixed except that panel on my second screen moved into the first

hope it helps :)

Thanks for that!
The command saved my day when the window decorations for some reason suddenly disappeared.
