I am using Kubuntu 10.04. I have been noticing few issues with Plasma-desktop lately. After restart, the system freezes at splash screen after login and it opens Yakuake and Firefox. But Kubuntu won't open any Kde applications. Plasma-desktop is also not started. I have a free space of 1.6 in my root partition. I can log into Fluxbox and openbox.
This is the content of the xsession error file. It seems that something is preventing Kde application to get initiate.
When I tried to open dolphin from a terminal, I get this message and the dolphin freezes

Can you start KDE's System Settings from fluxbox/openbox? Can you check under Desktop Search what is the setting you have?

To my surprise I can open KDE's Sysystem settings in fluxbox. Under the Desktop Search, Nepomuk is enabled and stringi desktop is disabled and 164 Mb I have allotted for Nepomuk Database. |

Can you try disabling Nepomuk and try to use Plasma again? It looks like your Nepomuk install is somehow broken (see the several "connection refused" messages):

Can you try attaching a debugger to an application which fails to start (such as Dolphin) after letting it wait for a short period of time?
I suspect this is D-Bus related. If you wait a long time, does your desktop and applications eventually load?

Plasma-dektop behaviour is erratic. Occasionally, after login I get the plasma-desktop but nothing works Kicker, panel, kwin etc. Many times, after login the Splash Screen freezes and no plasma-dekstop except for Yakuake (I have configures to open it at start up ) and Firefox. |

This definitely sounds like a D-Bus based hang.
With regards to generating a backtrace, please ensure no other copies of Dolphin are running when you do that. Also, only wait 5-10 seconds at the most before interrupting Dolphin (with Control-C). Generate a backtrace at that point (and then allow it to continue to start).
