Hello,

Lately when I wanted to do some customization of my KDE's desktop I've noticed that I am not able to load theme's data in KDE Control Module Add-on Installer (Desktop theme). It displays such message: "Loading of providers from file: http://download.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml failed".

I have access to that XML file through web browser and I am pretty sure I haven't blocked any other ports since I have installed my OS.

My KDE version is 4.8.5. I have found some solution at Google to check network connection, missing packages of network and blablabla, nothing has solved my problem. What is the right solution ?

Greeting,
Michael

Yes, I have successfully opened it through firefox

It has returned to me such text as output

failed 999 please check the syntax. api specifications are here: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifi ... n-services debug output: http request method: GET http request uri: /v1/

Some time ago (like 6-8 months ago) there was no problem to browse new themes etc.. I haven't installed anything hacky that could mess something. Also still same network configuration (both software and hardware at PC and router).

Don't know if I've understood you properly.

I checked and $KDEHOME variable is not define at system, so I entered directly ~/.kde/share/apps
and renamed directory name knewstuff3 to knewstuff3_

If I did what you wanted me to do, then it didn't help - same error occurs.

After opening dialog window that should display themes it created knewstuff3 directory and file plasma-themes.knsregistry inside it with such content

bash-4.2$ cat plasma-themes.knsregistry
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE khotnewstuff3>
<hotnewstuffregistry/>
bash-4.2$

Can you please verify that any proxy settings, if necessary are correctly specified in System Settings? If your network doesn't use a proxy, please ensure directly connected / no proxy is selected.

You're right. I have reminded myself that lately I have been using Konqueror with proxy settings. Disabling this offline proxy server solved problem.

Thank you xD

Thank you a lot! It is related to other errors too, for example why muon cannot download packages!!!
