I have been having problems with the Weather Forecast that you can enable in the System Tray. This is the same as the Weather Forecast v1.0 widget by the way.
So, quite often the weather has an issue trying to update and shows the message "Please Configure". I searched the forum here and none of the previous threads addressed the issue. Sometimes I have to log out (new session) and back in again to get it to update. I have it set to update every 30 minutes (default). Sometimes I can change it to 35 minutes and it will update properly, sometimes not. Other times I have to restart the computer completely. You never know what to try. I have tried searching for the city again as a nudge. Unfortunately that does not always work. Today it was really being bad and I stupidly removed it and the re-enabled it in the SysTray. Now I am stuck with only options from wetter.com when I previously had Noaa (http://forecast.weather.gov) for my city. I utterly hate wetter.com because it's not accurate for US cities (at least mine) and Noaa cities are not showing up for some reason. I also dislike the wetter.com choice because it displays only 4 days. The Noaa option usually has 7 days AND another tab showing details of the current day. My questions are; 1. How do I get Noaa back, permenantly. 2. Why does the widget keep losing it's configuration?

I suspect the Weather Forecast widget might not be operating correctly in the system tray. If you add a Weather Forecast widget directly to the panel (or to the desktop) and configure it there, does that work properly?
In terms of why NOAA has disappeared as a data source, that is quite unusual behaviour - although it may explain why the applet was asking you to constantly reconfigure it. Can you try running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" please?

AFAICT the plasmoid sometimes/often has problems fetching noaa data, and therefore also no search results for noaa show up. The plasmoid itself works fine in the system tray though. I have no problems whatsoever here with a wetter.com data source. |

If queries to NOAA are failing, then it may be worth to use "kdebugdialog" to enable debugging output for all areas, and then monitor the content of ~/.xsession-errors as you attempt to reconfigure the Weather Forecast applet.

Sorry to get back to this so late, good news/bad news.
So the Noaa option is back but I had to do a weird entry to get it. If you put in the city name only and nothing else, no state or country and then wait until it displays the drop down box, it shows up at the very bottom of the list with (noaa) at the end. I tried all kinds of combinations to get that. I did not try any other cities in the US I was too focused on my location. The bad, it keeps losing the connection and eventually ends up blank asking to be reconfigured. My system is on and I am always logged in. If I restart it usually comes back, log out/in was not working. Now it's the opposite. Restart does not help and log out/in does. I ran kbuildsycoca4: kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Actions in "ServiceMenus/krename_dir_rec.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Actions in "ServiceMenus/krename_all_nonrec.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Keywords in "k3bsetup.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) VFolderMenu::loadDoc: Parse error in "/home/p4/.config/menus/applications-merged/xdg-desktop-menu-dummy.menu" , line 1 , col 1 : "unexpected end of file" kbuildsycoca4(7974)/kdecore (services) KServicePrivate::init: The desktop entry file "boomerang top 3.png.desktop" has Type= "Link" instead of "Application" or "Service" kbuildsycoca4(7974) KBuildServiceFactory::createEntry: Invalid Service : "boomerang top 3.png.desktop" kbuildsycoca4(7974)/kdecore (services) KServicePrivate::init: The desktop entry file "blue creme.jpg.desktop" has Type= "Link" instead of "Application" or "Service" kbuildsycoca4(7974) KBuildServiceFactory::createEntry: Invalid Service : "blue creme.jpg.desktop" kbuildsycoca4(7974)/kdecore (services) KServicePrivate::init: The desktop entry file "w3.png.desktop" has Type= "Link" instead of "Application" or "Service" kbuildsycoca4(7974) KBuildServiceFactory::createEntry: Invalid Service : "w3.png.desktop" kbuildsycoca4(7974)/kdecore (services) KServicePrivate::init: The desktop entry file "Firefox.docx.desktop" has Type= "Link" instead of "Application" or "Service" kbuildsycoca4(7974) KBuildServiceFactory::createEntry: Invalid Service : "Firefox.docx.desktop" kbuildsycoca4(7974)/kdecore (services) KServicePrivate::init: The desktop entry file "Target 5.pdf.desktop" has Type= "Link" instead of "Application" or "Service" kbuildsycoca4(7974) KBuildServiceFactory::createEntry: Invalid Service : "Target 5.pdf.desktop" kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/usr/share/applications/sweethome3d.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Keywords in "/usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Actions in "/usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/usr/share/applications/im-switch.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/usr/share/applications/kde4/bluedevil-network-dun.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/usr/share/applications/kde4/bluedevil-network-panu.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry MimeType in "/usr/share/applications/leafpad.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry MimeType in "/usr/share/applications/treeline.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Keywords in "/usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974)/kdecore (services) KServicePrivate::init: The desktop entry file "/home/p4/.local/share/applications/blank.desktop" has Type= "Application" but no Exec line kbuildsycoca4(7974) KBuildServiceFactory::createEntry: Invalid Service : "/home/p4/.local/share/applications/blank.desktop" kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/home/p4/.local/share/applications/sweethome3d.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Keywords in "/home/p4/.local/share/applications/firefox.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(7974) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Keywords in "/home/p4/.local/share/applications/FF kolya.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). Oddly some of the files listed (.jpg, .pdf) are on an external drive. So how does this data effect the Weather Widget?

Another question I had is, where do I go to make suggestions specifically relating to this widget? I would love it if the developers would add the windchill and heat index info to the display.

try yaWP (yet another weather plasmoid) has a "feels like" temp which should equate to wind chill, package should be plasma-widget-yawp |

In terms of your problems with NOAA, it seems that they may be experiencing some service instability - which is why the applet is behaving oddly. This would explain why sometimes a reboot or a logout will fix it - as both cause Plasma Desktop to be restarted, and thus to requery NOAA for the latest weather information.
