Right click menu with tint2

Sat Feb 08, 2014 6:03 am
Howdy,

I recently switched from Ubuntu/Gnome to Crunchbang/KDE (Krunchbang) and absolutely love it. One issue I have though is that I decided to keep tint2 as my bar- dual head display that separates windows icons by desktop, which is fairly useful- but the ability to right click to pull up the applications menu has disappeared. Does anyone know how I can reintegrate this behavior into KDE as opposed to Openbox?

Thanks!

Can you please explain how you "pulled up" the application menus? Are you referring to an icon on the panel you clicked (Windows style) or a mouse click on an empty portion of the desktop?

Openbox intercepts rmb clicks on the root window and shows a "classical" (Win95 style) applications menu.
The root window is covered by plasma-desktop and he likely runs kwin, not openbox.

@bakunin_yo
rightlick the desktop and select "Default Desktop Settings", in the dialog showing up, enter the "Mouse actions page" and for "right button" choose "Application launcher"

BE AWARE! That you might want to assign the "Standard Menu" to some other button - otherwise the "Cashew" (the yellow thing in a corner) holds access to the "default desktop settings" and they're also accessble from systemsettings.

I'm referring to a right click on an empty portion of the desktop. In Openbox, right clicking on an empty space pulls up a menu where ever the mouse cursor is located. The same behavior happens when right clicking on the tint2 panel as any other space on the desktop.

I've already set it up to do so as luebking suggested to get the menu to open with a right click on the desktop, but doing so on the tint2 panel does nothing (thanks for the suggestion, regardless). There's an option in the tint2 conf file for showing the menu, too; but nothing happens when it's activated.

That won't work.
plasma-desktop does not receive the clicke and tint2 apparently has some special feature to either open the openbox menu directly or forward right buttoin clicks to the root window.
changes to the tint2 code seem inevitable in this case.

PS.
you could of course replace kwin with openbox, run "kcmshell4 componentchooser"
Of course you'd then not be using either plasma-desktop (tint2) nor kwin (openbox) but rather openbox on top aof a KDE session =)

dual head display that separates windows icons by desktop, which is fairly useful

Is that the reason to use tint2, and are you sure the plasma taskbar cannot do what you want?

Well that's unfortunate, but I'll definitely play around with the plasma taskbar to see if I can get the same functionality out of it as tint2. I'm sure given the functionality that I can probably find an acceptable solution. Thanks for the reply!
