My system doesn't respond in any visible way to shutdown/restart/logout buttons on my menu or any widgets. Nor the command to logout: qdbus org.kde.ksmserver /KSMServer logout 0 0 0.

It does not have this problem for another user on my system, I believe the problem exists in local .kde files. Any ideas which KDE config files affect shutdown/logout?

Have you read the Answer in your other thread?

Thanks. It didn't have an answer for my situation. The reason I ask a new question is because the first one was generically a description of my problem, shutdown doesn't work. This one is more specific. I'd like to have an idea of what config files would affect logout/shutdown and then I can compare them with the other user on my system that doesn't have this problem. Right now I don't have any idea what files to compare.

I don't think that a curruptet config-file in your /home-folder could cause this.

Anyway, you could start with:
~/.kde4/share/config/ksmserverrc
~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc

You could also try to rename the folder "~/.kde4/share/config/" or the complete "~/.kde4/"-folder. All settings get lost if you do so, but all files and folders are recreated.

You could use a filemanager which is able to compare two folders and marks different files in it, e.g. krusader. [edit:] By installing kdiff3 you could do so also with dolphin.

Does "ping prajipati" work?

Yes it does. I have prajipati in the hosts file.

I just double checked and when I create a new user then log into that account I am able to use shutdown/restart/logout menu buttons. I believe it might be something in a local config file in this account. Also, I've been keeping up with updates and the problem persists, I'm on 4.13.1 now.

Please try quitting any non-standard applications which you have running - they may be preventing the session from ending.
In addition, please erase the content of /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER, /tmp/kde-$USER and /tmp/ksocket-$USER outside KDE.
