Till today morning, I was a happy KDE user and now this!
I use a Dual-boot computer --- Kubuntu 13.10 and Ubuntu Gnome 13.10. Ubuntu Gnome is almost never used. Today, I got a Update notification in Kubuntu. A new kernel version was downloaded and installed. On restarting, I accidentally booted into Ubuntu Gnome 13.10. And because I wanted to do some browsing, launched Firefox there. But soon logged out of Ubuntu Gnome and restarted to come back to Kubuntu. Now, when I try to launch Firefox, it refuses to start. When I start it from a terminal, I get an error saying: (process:2334): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed (firefox:2334): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::sm-connect after class was initialised (firefox:2334): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::show-crash-dialog after class was initialised (firefox:2334): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::display after class was initialised (firefox:2334): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::default-icon after class was initialised ** (firefox:2334): ERROR **: Resource problem creating '/tmp/orbit-uname' The error is similar for Thunderbird. Amarok when started from terminal gives an error: QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave. QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave. KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing... KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit sock_file=/home/sandip/.kde/socket-efinso-X53U/kdeinit4__0 unnamed app(2426): Communication problem with "amarok" , it probably crashed. Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" " What is happening? How do I set it right?

I attempted the second remedy first and it worked like charm! Writing this reply from Firefox in KDE. The Thunderbird is also normal now. I could start that, too. Thanks google01103. But I am still unable to run Amarok. Anything I need to do there?

Could you please open a new topic, and include in it console output when you try to start those applications, as well as a list of other affected applications?
