it would help if you shared what you've already tried

can you right click it and remove it?

if you remove the notifications in the system tray does the 2nd one go away? you can just re-add it afterwards

did you restart KDE?

would you be willing to revert you desktop setting to the default to fix this?

can you elaborate on the behavior?
- can you interact with either or in case which one only?
- does it go away with the compositor (Shift+Alt+F12)?

It looks like the background should be blurred (like for the panel) but is not -> "kcmshell4 kwincompositing", 2nd tab. Is the blur effect enabled and does the issue remain when disabling it?

Is not going away when i disable the desktop effects. This is a pic without desktop effect

The right click in the upper left corner dont work but it has an x to disable it. If i choose to disable it then and the notifications from system tray disappear.
The steps i have done so far up now is to try to change the notification settings like to appear only with a popup window but nothing happens.
I have try to delete the setting file of notifications in home hidden folder but nothing change. I am not sure and which file is.
I have try to delete all the .kde folder. This has fix the problem for a min but after a while the strange mirror notification problem came back.. I have try to reinstall kubuntu-notification-helper(i dont know if this the correct package) but nothing happens.
The only think that work was to disable kde notification and install colibri but this is not a native solution and i lost all the system notification like copy a file etc.
If you have notice there is no notification in system tray only an empty icon.

if you delete it from the system tray and add a notification widget on the desktop (or the panel) does the duplication happen?

have you tried as a new/different user?

ok i fix it with the solution you write :)
first i have delete it from system tray .Then i have add another notify plasmoid to system tray and the notification appear only to system tray. My thought is that something wrong is with kubuntu default notification. One other problem now is that only thunderbird did not sent notification in any new email but i think i will fix it.

I have a very similar problem, for quite some time too. But I am on OpenSUSE, KDE 4.13.0 atm. I can't remember when the problem first appeared, but I have the suspicion it is related to the QML switch. In my case, there is only one notification appearing, but it is in the wrong place: center right of my screen.

Disabling from the notification area and using the plasmoid also solve this issue in my case
