After an update I lost the "extract here" option in the context menu. How can I bring it back?

To verify this isn't caused by local user configuration - can you try under a new user please?

is there a setting for context menus in system settings menu that i am not seeing?

you mean a context menu in Dolphin? if so then settings -> configure Dolphin -> services -> make sure extract: "extract archive here" is checked (I also have a "extract: extract here" one)

Also, which version of Ark and KDE are you now running?

do you have "extract: extract archive here"? if so does it work?

no. on the context menu i only have "open with ark" and "compress:" options |

I'm gonna guess and say those service menues are provided (in my distro) by the Ark package and specifically the files:
/usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ark_servicemenu.desktop can you try reinstalling Ark |

i reinstalled, but nothing. could you please upload the content of your servicemenu.desktop file? i think mine seems to lack .zip type. |

is zip files the only issue?
your .desktop seems to be missing "application/zip" on the MimeType= line, is the unzip package installed?

yes adding application/zip entry solved the issue! i have no idea why i lacked it (unzip was always installed)

My guess is that this was a accidental error, which has been subsequently fixed.
