Hello,
I am pretty new to the KDE workspace and have tried to find out how I can update my Debian 7.5 KDE 4.8.4 installation to KDE 4.13.2, but have not been successful in doing so. I am wondering if there is a KDE 4.13.2 repository that I can use to just update the installed KDE 4.8.4 modules? Thanks, LaurentZG |

KDE does not provide packaging, you should use your distros repos for updates or you should compile from source. The thing about Debian is it's stable and well tested and because of that the sw isn't always the most up to date, even Debian Unstable only provides KDE 4.11.3.
I don't know enough about Debian to state that a 3rd party doesn't provide 4.13.x, for that you'd best post on Debian's forum Probably if you want the latest version of KDE you'll need to change distros and if you have a favoring for Debian you should look for a distro that is Debian based but provides more current sw, Mint LMDE comes to mind but not sure if there's a KDE repo |

Thanks a lot for a good answer. I really appreciate it. No matter how it works out I would like to try updating the modules already installed as standard with Debian. Could you please give me the direction to where I can learn more about how to compile from source? I have found the source codes in .tar.xz format here: http://www.kde.org/info/4.13.2.php Thanks |

I've never compiled, but these look like a good place to start (inc the videos), Google'ing and searching this forum should provide additional resources

you should compile from source.
kdesrc-build is a tool to allow you to easily build KDE from its source repositories. http://kdesrc-build.kde.org/releases/kd ... 1.15.1.php

Thanks a lot to both of you guys!
If I find a good procedure on the compilings I'll post a little guide for others too. |
