When I restart my computer KDE preserves the open programs. At least almost.
ParaView, a 3d visualization software, is not started, even if it was running when I logged of last time. ParaView is Qt based.

Does anyone have a clue what the reason? What can I do to find out what goes wrong?

Paraview seems python driven what could be a problem if the "executable" is "python paraview.py" or similar (actually, i've frankly no idea if and what extras it takes for a python script to be included in session management... restoring "python" will rather not do)
The relevant config file is
Code: Select all
`kde4-config --path config | cut -d":" -f1`ksmserverrc
(likely ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc or ~/.kde4/share/config/ksmserverrc)

Other causes:
* application actively opts out of session management
* application is blacklisted in
Code: Select all
kcmshell4 smserver

With ParaView running, can you post the output of "ps aux | grep paraview"?
From what I can tell, the application does appear to have a proper binary - although it looks like it might be launched by a wrapper - which could be the cause of the issue (if session management tries to launch the application itself directly - not through the wrapper).
