How to remove widget from panel?

Wed Oct 15, 2014 1:45 pm
Hi all,

This is my first post here so I hope I am at the right spot and do things right ...

Using: Kubuntu 13.04

I want to remove widgets from the Panel.
After unlocking widgets, I tried right click what gives me only the option to remove the whole panel but not just the widget.
In System Setting I can't find a way either and in the net I found only the same question but no answer except "click right" what doesn't
give me the option.

Any help out there?

welcome

at the end of the panel is what is call a cashew, left click on it and the panel expands to show additional options - this will also enable you to right click and remove widgets from it

Unlocking the panel is the first step. Second is to place the mouse over the widget and you will see a pop-up with its name and a cross in the top right hand corner. Click on the cross and the widget is gone :)

You must first click anywhere on the panel or desktop and click "Unlock widgets".
Then you can right-click on widget and remove it.
You can also click little "cashew" icon to open panel configuration. Then when you hover your mouse over widget, little box will appear with widget name and cross icon, which you can use to remove it.

As last resort, you can also log out and manually edit ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc, but I doubt it will be necessary.

This method no longer works on KDE 4.14
The remove option never shows unless you
First Select Add Widget.
When the horizontal selection list of widgets shows up, then, (and only then) you can slide down to the offending widget and right click to obtain the delete option.

That's definitely not true, at least not here with 4.14.3.

When I click on the toolbox icon on the right side of the panel as explained (widgets have to be unlocked of course), there's a "Remove" option in the right-click context menu for every widget and a 'X' symbol to remove it when you hover over it.
No need to select "Add Widgets" first.

But the option is only available as long as the toolbox is open...
