I've got some questions I can't seem to find any answers so. I'm one of those old farts who used to use KDE3, so please forgive me if this stuff is supposed to be intuitive and obvious.
1) Where are the old compress actions? If I want to compress a folder in Dolphin, how do I do that? I used to be able to do this in two mouse clicks, now I have to drop down to the command line. 2) How do I open a folder in a new window? This used to be an action too. I don't want a split window, I want a separate window, preferable without having to start a new instance of Dolphin and having to navigate to the right spot. 3) How to make Qt apps follow KDE4 style, without using qtconfig? This works on one of my desktops, but not another. So I assume there's a hidden config somewhere. 4) And finally, is there anyway to put sftp links into the Network Folder? It allows FTP but not SFTP.

Compress actions are handled by ark. I believe there is something you can install from kde-apps to restore this in 4.1, and I think the developer has implemented it for 4.2 ( I think ) I do not know if this Konqueror solution works in Dolphin.
Regarding not being able to add SFTP links, I think they are called SSH links in the Network Folder Wizard. Also getting KDE 4 colors to apply in Non-KDE4 applications, just ensure that 'Apply colors to non-KDE4 applications' in System Settings > Appearance > Colors is ticked. I think this covers both Qt4, and Gtk apps. By the way, I still use Konqueror. You can easily set it to be the default file manager, and it will allow you to open folders in a new window as well ( you can't in Dolphin, needs a feature bug report )

Unfortunately, Ark doesn't handle zip. It gives me a not-implemented message. But regardless, Ark is a clunky interface, I was hoping for the old quick-two-click action. Oh well, wait until January maybe.
That's not quite the same. The "SSH" option creates a fish:/ connection, which is substantially slower than sftp.
That covers colors. But not the style. The default style of KDE4 is Oxygen, but my Qt4 apps are coming up with Plastique. Oxygen is available, just not set automatically.
I may go back to Konqueror. I'm just trying out Dolphin since everyone says it's what the hip and trendy people are using.

You may also want to try out Krusader, as it will let you do several of the things that you want Dolphin to do, like archive management.

That is unusual, Ark handles zip's without problem for me. I did not even know there was a sftp kioslave. In that case I would recommend creating a feature request on bugs.kde.org asking for adding your own custom KIO slave links to the network area.

The features "Open in New Folder" and "Open in New Tab" are implemented in dolphin for KDE 4.2. ![]() code | cia.vc | donating KDE | wishlist |
