Hello!

i use project neon5

all of a sudden the icons in my panel if i clicked on them instead of launching the program have opened with kate.
so i went to systemsettings5 / applications / default applications ... and by search i found the "application/x-desktop" rederence.... there a lot of programs were listed, like kate, emasc32, ... amm.. since all of them were text editors i removed all of them....

and saved... it informed me (in konsole) that the association became "dirty"...amm... now when i click on .desktop icon in my panel ...the pop up to choose the default application comes....

i tried to associated them with xdg-open and kde-open and kde5-open.... but no matter which i choose the programs doesnt start running..all it happens is just *-open proceess starts to run, gets killed, starts to rn again (as viewed in system activity) and the system becomes really slow....

i spend 6 hours now on internet trying to figure out to what program should i connect/associate the .desktop file and i read about mimes, where they should be ..but unfortunately i didnt understand what they mean or what should i do... i tried to reinstall shared-mime-info package + reboot, didnt help

i also run the command

fani@avatar:~$ locate inode/directory
/usr/share/mime/inode/directory.xml
fani@avatar:~$

now i dont know what i have to do with the xml -- delete it, or edit it or none of the above...

i really really dont want to reinstall the system -- i just did it the day b4 yesterday... if anyone has any advice it would be very appriciated!

thank you!

nice day

Simon
