Oxygen Transparent in Framework 5

Sat Nov 15, 2014 11:15 pm
I'm a fan of the oxygen-transparent style. With Framework 5 approaching and KDE4 nearing its end, I'm interested to know what the status of this theme is in regard to the latest version. Do transparent widgets work for qt5 and the new KWin? If I remember correctly, KDE5 will be using a new system for rendering windows called Wayland... so I assume the oxygen-transparent lib might need some tweaks for that?

I'm still highly interested in this! I currently use oxygen-transparent with Blur compositing, and it's one of the visual aspects of my system I like most. I really wish to keep it once I will switch over to Framework 5.

I installed the experimental KDE5 packages for openSUSE 13.2 on a different machine for testing, with all relevant addons in its repositories. I searched on http://software.opensuse.org but didn't find a kwin5 version of oxygen-transparent. Obviously the KDE4 one will not work... I still have the package installed but it's no longer shown in the Configure Desktop menu.

Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be the existing oxygen-transparent. I simply want a widget style and (especially) kwin theme with configurable transparency, and under which the contents are blurred. I also want the ability to colorize the titlebar and window background via color scheme. The only window theme which allows both transparency and colorization as far as I know though is oxygen-transparent.

KDE5 will still works on X.org. KWin/Wayland is only option.

Is the existing Oxygen Transparent easy to re-implement for Wayland (namely the transparency component)? For X11 I assume it could work the same way as currently.

There's only needs for OpenGL. Plasma is rendering widget and there's no matter about KWin/Mutter X11/Wayland.

I thought this was only the case for Plasma widgets, not window contents. In that case the existing version might work. The existing oxygen-transparent package no longer lists the theme in the Configure Desktop menu however, so at least some definitions need to be updated.
