Hello.

I am using KDE v4.8.4 on my Debian stable machine. I never use and keeps getting QuickSand on my desktop which is annoying. How can I disable this KDE feature? I could not find a way and the answer from my searches. :(

Thank you in advance. :)

not sure what you mean

if you mean quicksand the alternative interface for krunner and you want the standard krunner interface? then open krunner (alt+F2) -> wrench -> user interface -> style -> command orientated

if the problem is krunner (quicksand interface) keeps popping up then you need to id what is triggering it, normally it is alt+f2 and you can disable it in systemsettings under global keyboard shortcuts the shortcut for "run command"

if you mean something else a pic might help

I sometimes accidently type on my desktop to make QuickSand come up. I never want Quicksand to appear. I assume Krunner is like QuickSand. I don't want anything to come up when I type something on my desktop.

If you wonder why KRunner (QuickSand is just an alternative interface for KRunner) pops up, it could be that you type something while the focus is on the desktop. This is a feature of the "Default Desktop" layout. You can change to e.g. the "Folder" layout to disable this feature: right click on desktop -> Default Desktop Settings -> (Unlock Widgets ->) Layout: Folder.

Thanks. That was perfect. I also checked out the other layouts. They were interesting. I am an old fashion guy so I used Folder.

You're welcome. Heh, it was in a hidden place for a KDE4 newbie. I knew there had to be a way to remove that feature. ;) I guess I am the only one who didn't like that feature too since searches resulted nothing about disabling it. :(
