Dolphin Issues

Sun Sep 06, 2015 2:58 am
A couple of bugs or issues seem to have crept into Dolphin. The find functionality is broken. Any attempt to use it gives "Invalid Protocol". The other issue is the timestamp of files listed through FTP; they all have the same time and date. Anyone know what to do get Dolphin working properly again. Two opensuse 13.2 systems updated to KDE-FW 5.11.0 and Dolphin 15.08.0 and are afflicted.

I have openSUSE 13.2. That's strange that you have those same issues on two systems. I don't have those issues and everything is updated. The only issue I have with Dolphin is it won't show preview photo on video files.

Install the KDE4 version instead? (15.04.1 is available from the standard update repo)

For the search functionality in the KF5 based dolphin, you need a working Baloo5 as well.
In particular you need to have baloo5-kioslaves installed, I think.
If it is installed, try to run "kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental" (as user, not root).

Regarding your FTP problem: I can confirm that the time stamps are not shown correctly in 15.08.
Seems to be a bug in the Frameworks5 kio_ftp.
Please file a bug report.

You are using the KDE4 version, the OP uses the KF5 version (from some additional repo) which is not included in openSUSE 13.2.

Re: Dolphin Issues (file timestamp)

Same bug in Dolphin on ftp timestamp loss with Mageia 5.1 ditro (KDE 4.14.5), and also for samba network link. FTP works Ok in Filezilla. I use ftp or/and smb transfers with my NAS QNAP. This bug occured long time ago, was fixed, and is back now.

Please note that this thread was about the KF5 version of dolphin, 16.08.
It actually was a bug in the ftp kioslave that got introduced when porting it to Qt5, and should be fixed meanwhile (since KDE Frameworks 5.19.0).

Also, the term "KDE 4.14.5" doesn't make any sense really.
I suppose you mean kdelibs(4) 4.14.5 as there never was a dolphin 4.14.5 (dolphin4 would show "Using KDE 4.14.5" in its about dialog in that case).

In any case, the main question (also for smb) is what version of dolphin you use, i.e. is it based on kdelibs4 or is it KDE Frameworks5.

This bug occured long time ago, was fixed, and is back now.

Both work fine in *current* kdelibs4 versions here (just tried with 4.14.27), and in *current* KF5 (5.29.0). And according to another comment here, ftp at least also worked with 4.14.9 (as shipped in openSUSE 13.2).
No idea about kdelibs 4.14.5 in particular though, which is from February 2015. Maybe you should try to upgrade.
