Vertical panel + systray and the icons are HUGE.
KDE3 did better job, you know it could fit TWO icons to the same row using 52px wide vertical panel.
I tought this "feature" would be already imported to KDE4....

Just resize the panel (right-click: panel options > panel settings, or use the hamburger).

if you tell me how do I add notifications, kmix, device notifier, pidgin and kmail task bar icon to the quicklauncher so that they function the same as in the task bar.
Example kmail shows the unread post count in the icon and pidgin interactive task bar icon blinks when I recieve a message.

sorry quicklaunch is a container for widgets and you're interested in the system tray - sometimes I type faster then I comprehend, apologies

changing the width of the panel will do the following, which I think is what you want
