Hi,

I have been testing KDE Plasma 5 on Debian usntable ever since it was uploaded there and went with it through some hard times.

By now, it appears to be mostly stable, but I think somewhere on the way, my profile got broken at some points. SOme of the effects are:

* The compositor does not get enabled automatically, I have to press Alt+Shift+F12 after login
* The font in Konsole is somewhat broken for Unicode characters (but this could also be an upright bug)
* Some of the links in the favourite applications are broken, along them are Dolphin and System Settings
* I have two sound volume controls, one of them being KMix, and one something I do not know what it is called. The second seems to use PulseAudio correctly. I want KMix to disappear, basically, and just use the second. Any hints on what it is called, by the way?
* Gwenview seems to lack some features, for example, the "Open with" menu is not there, but it is in a fresh account

How can I fix stuff like that without recreating my entire KDE profile?

Cheers,
Nik

Is "Start compositor at login" enabled in System Settings->Display and Monitor->Compositor?

Have you tried to set a different font?

* Some of the links in the favourite applications are broken, along them are Dolphin and System Settings

Remove the broken ones (right-click on them) and add the correct ones by right-clicking on them in the menu and choosing "Add to Favorites".
Or delete ~/.config/kickoffrc to get the default ones which should work.

* I have two sound volume controls, one of them being KMix, and one something I do not know what it is called. The second seems to use PulseAudio correctly. I want KMix to disappear, basically, and just use the second.

Right-click on the KMix icon and choose "Quit".
If it is still started on Login, left-click on the icon, click on "Mixer", choose "KMix Settings" from the menu and disable Autostart there.
Or just uninstall it if possible.

Any hints on what it is called, by the way?

plasma-pa.

* Gwenview seems to lack some features, for example, the "Open with" menu is not there, but it is in a fresh account

Try to remove ~/.local/share/kxmlgui5/gwenview/.
