How do you deduce that the keyboard doesn't work?
Do kernel shortcuts (eg. ctrl+alt+f2) still work?
Do global shortcuts like for krunner (Alt+F2) work?

I'd ask to check the output of "setxkbmap -print" but that's hardly an option, is it?
