Hi,

I am new to the linux so it is possible that this question is already answered. Anyway I have OpenSuse Tumbleweed with KDE installed on a laptop. I use it both docked with an external monitor + laptop monitor and not docked, i.e. only the laptop monitor.

When docked I see the default panel on my external monitor which is to the left of the laptop (physically and KDE display configuration and set up as a extended display). In essence the physical monitor will be 0.0. When the laptop is disconnected from the docking station (i.e. powered down and powered on again elsewhere), the default panel is MIA. I believe that it is still on the second display. Please take note that my laptop screen is defined as the primary display, both in dual monitor setup and laptop only.

Here is where I need help. How can I easily get the primary, default panel and everything on it to stay on the laptop screen, always? What I am looking for is the panel on the right of the laptop screen and not at the bottom.

Suggestion however, is that the default panel always jumps to the primary display and when undocked KDE detects this and sets the panel to the laptop display.

Thanks

You could probably use a kwin rule (run "kcmshell5 kwinrules") to enforce the panel to be on screen 1 (size and position tab), but plasmashell might get out of sync when it cannot place the panel where it expects it to see.

However, from your description it sounds as if the undocked screen isn't unregistered, ie. you maintain a dualscreen w/ only one screen, what's more problematic (any window could randomly show up there)

=> check the output of "xrandr -q" and in doubt "fix" it by "xrandr --output <OUTPUT_NAME> --off", eg. "xrandr --output DVI-I-0 --off"
