Hi,

i have a weird behavior since update from Kubuntu 15.10 to Kubuntu 16.04.
Everything worked perfectly during upgrade however, when i go to system configuration > Hardware > Driver manager, nothing is displayed as collected information.
System still "collects" after more than 20 minutes, whereas it displayed video information after just a minute or less under Kubuntu 15.10

So i'm not able to know anything about the driver used by my laptop and i can not improve it to make graphic card fan more silent than it is. :(

any idea where could be located the issue ?
thx.

Not sure where the fault lies but
Code: Select all
lspci -k
will list your hardware incl. driver.

if you need information
$ ubuntu-drivers debug

but if you need to actually install non-free drivers
$ sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall

here it is the result for VGA:
Code: Select all
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF106M [GeForce GTX 460M] (rev a1)
        Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. GF106M [GeForce GTX 460M]
        Kernel driver in use: nvidia
        Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau, nvidia

So it seems that i have the nouveau module installed but i can not install a proprietary nvidia driver module without getting a blank screen at next bootup.

I am no *buntu man but remember that I had to blacklist my nouveau modules so that the nvidia driver was loaded properly. You will find PLENTY of stuff on that on google or alternatively try humanbeing's suggestion.
