Hi there!
First off: relatively new Linux user here, so please bear with me if I stray into noobish behavior. Secondly: Despite what follows, a thank you to the KDE 5 team/contributors. I don't think I would have been as comfortable starting my transition away from Windows without a DE that looks this good. Try and I might, I can't bring myself to switch to XCFE, despite people harping on about how much better it transforms. Now comes the nasty bit (sorry): I had one or two instances where Manjaro froze on me, but I wasn't sure what caused it, as I was still totally new to Linux and didn't know where to look for logs/error reports. In one instance it was on start-up, where my fans boosted up to the max before I was even out of the splash screen, my CPU usage went nuts and then froze. I could move the mouse, but clicking didn't do anything. Now of course this might be totally unrelated to KDE, but I just figured I'd give some background. Since then I've done quite a bit of tinkering however, including switching graphics drivers from my Optimus system to what I believe is the correct configuration (via Bumblebee/Manajro hardware detection). So as of a few days, I have had no further freezing issues. I do however see curious errors/warnings popping up in Ksystemlog. They're very easy to reproduce too. Here's as cross section of the errors I get:
Now I know there's some kwin stuff in there, but it's possible they're both related. To reproduce these warnings/errors I simply have to minimize/maximize windows (assuming that's the BadWindow one); for the (BadValue/BadDrawable) I have to highlight or click on icons on the bottom panel. I'm not really noticing too much wrong at the moment, but I have experienced something odd twice now where after logging in my bottom panel is half the width, so it stops half way and just shows the desktop image for the rest. If you could help me figure out what's causing the warnings/errors I would be happy enough, however. Here's the output of the KWin support info command:
My current drivers for this Optimus system are:
And:
Hopefully I'm not being to broad/vague! It's all a bit over my head still but I'm learning. If there's any other info I can provide, please don't hesitate to ask! Thanks guys. |

this bug report possibly explains your warning messages https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340318#c2, if so just ignore them
no idea about the panel issue - you could delete it and start afresh see if that helps, maybe even reset your entire desktop. When it appears 1/2 size is it compressed or are there things missing? maybe a widget hangs. if you wish to restart plasma instead of your entire session

Thanks for check out my post! Yes, I did actually see that some time ago. I'm not entirely sure, but I have come across other Manjaro KDE users on IRC that reported similar messages. I also came across one post (that I conveniently lost) where somebody reported encountering, and fixing these messages by changing graphics drivers and reinstalling certain packages. Running Optimus/Bumblebee makes it a bit more complicated though I think...as does loosing the location of that post! Oh well! I'll keep my eye on them and see if anything more serious pops up. I'm sure there's lots of bugs and issues being worked out currently anyhow, so who knows what future updates will fix. As far as I can remember, nothing was missing from the panel, it had just shrunk. Interestingly enough, it seemed to think that it reached all the way across the screen, because adjusting the width didn't work. On restarting it was all back to normal anyhow, so your command will come in handy there! |
