Hello, I just noticed it is either not possible or I don't know the trick how to do it. I just want to reorder the running apps icons on the default panel like in MS Windows. How do I do that?

Hm, works with my Icons-only Task Manager. I can change the icons around as I see fit (which I don't, btw). Which task manager are you using?

Task manager? You mean system monitor? I am talking about the taskbar - the "default panel" with K menu and tray icons and running apps icons with labels. When I try to drag one of those the cursor changes to hand and I am dragging the app icon, but to no use.

The "official" name for that is "Task Manager", not "taskbar".
The default is to sort alphabetically. Change it to "manual" in the settings (right-click on the applet), and you should be able to reorder the tasks. I just tried that and it works fine here. |

Oh really? That is quite surprising to me. I have been using Windows for many years and it's totally the other way around! The bar at the bottom was always called task bar and the utility to show running processes was always task manager :-] Now at work I use both Linux and Windows. I wonder if this confusion is intentional or some kind of KDE joke ![]() Anyway - when I right click on the panel (on tha hamburger menu on the right) I see panel settings. Upon clicking there is "more settings" but I don't see any option like you described. Please let me know exactly where is this menu. Thanks |

Now that we think we all know what we are talking about, what is your task manager called? And I mean the one in the taskbar which shows the icons?

As I wrote: Right-click on the Task Manager (or taskbar if you like) and choose "Task Manager Settings". |

Oh I found it. It did not occur to me that I can click directly on one of the applications to access the "taskbar settings". I expected just application specific menu there. Interesting is that "taskbar settings" is not accessible from the hamburger icon on the right side... So now it works. Thanks.

This is because the "Task Manager" is just an applet like any other, and those settings are specific to that particular applet. You can have several Task Managers (even on the desktop, they wouldn't be a "bar" then ![]() It makes no sense to have them in the panel settings therefore. Btw, the "Icons-only Task Manager" that toad mentioned only has this "manual" sorting mode (I suppose it makes no sense to sort icons by alphabet... ![]() |
