The lines are for each repository. So when you disabled all of your external PPAs, all you are left with are the main repositories. So let's established first what problems you have and whether they have been resolved. 1. Can't update system. - Resolved 2. Reset Plasma 5 - - Not resolved 3. KDialog issue - Needs more info. Is that an accurate description? Note that I have placed them in terms of priority. Resetting KDE will most likely resolve the other issues. So could you retry the resetting steps again? |

when i did that and got my main repos working again, i got a huge update that was 123mb big. and its downloading now so it should be done any moment now . but im scared, because everytime i update linux, something else comes about and new problem arises some other guy helped me getting my icons reset , so they're no longer colorful. so thats fixe,d even though it wasn't a major issue i wonder if reseting would actually do anything to fix kdialog im not sure if i need to reset my kde5 in order to get kdialog working in chrome again , though there is not much info i can give because crash info doesnt get generated ![]() |

Personally, I think the KDE implementation in Kubuntu is ideal only if you are concerned with stability instead of the latest and greatest. I moved from Kubuntu to openSUSE Tumbleweed because I wanted a KDE-centred distribution that received the latest updates, and is properly supported so if things break, they get fixed fairly quickly.
And stuff does break frequently in Tumbleweed! If you stick with the base configuration of Kubuntu, you should be fine. If you have PPAs installed, after every major upgrade cycle, for example 16.04 to 16.10, make sure you check your repositories to ensure they have been updated to the newer versions. If there is simply too much cruft left behind from upgrading, it may be quicker to reinstall Kubuntu. That would be my final recommendation unless you can find someone near you who can fix your computer in person who knows Ubuntu. |

At first i chose opensuse 42.1 Leap or something like that as a kde desktop platform for doing artwork with , and because of the lizard chameleon mascot, it also had a really good package manager, and i used it for a good 4 months, but i had problems with getting thumbnail previews for .kra file extensions to show in dolphin , because opensuse leap uses a really old plasma 5.2 , and i couldn't ever figure out how to port newer plasma to it. i was gonna use tumbleweed to get newest plasma , but i was too afraid, so i went with a regular kubuntu install and then added backports to get latest plasma so i can see my .kra files in Dolphin, even though kubuntu doesn't give the best kde experience, its been rock solid stable , the most stable linux ive ever used to date, except the backports give me weird problems after updating sometimes, so i may remove them once i get a perfect update whit everything working normally , and then continue to just get regular ubuntu 16.04 updates To me in my opinion i say opensuse gave the best kde experience out of all distros ive tried, and if there is ever a new opensuse leap with newer plasma 5.7-8+ ill consider goin back to it. some say arch also gives good kde experience so i may try it out too. At least i got my updates working again , so u actually did solve some of my problems , so thanks lol |

Sound like you should be getting KDE Neon then.
https://community.kde.org/Distributions#KDE_neon Based on Ubuntu LTS but with latest patches of KDE. |

First, Leap 42.1 comes with Plasma 5.5, not 5.2. But the Plasma version is irrelevant for thumbnails previews anyway. The .kra thumbnailer is part of kio-extras5 since KDE Applications 16.04. Leap 42.1 only has 15.12.3 (so the .kra thumbnailer is missing), but it's possible to get the latest version from the KDE:Applications repo.
Well, Leap 42.2 (with Plasma 5.8 and KDE Applications 16.08) is going to be released next week. ![]() You can even install it already, it is basically finished. |

i wanted to install it, but it still says 1 day left , so ill just wait , i want the real full release version,i see you can download leap 42.2 RC 2, but i dont even know what rc2 is ,and would rather not be bothered with it. sounds like a beta, and thats Not what i want. its been saying 6 days to go etc with countdown. Its strange, i just dont understand why they do that , if its finished already they can just release it and not wait countdown days if its already finished. Do you know why they make countdown days if its already basically finished? |

That's because there is still testing and QA ongoing with the packages. You can follow the nitty gritty by subscribing to the relevant mailing lists. |

No, the final version is already in the repos since last week, the repos are frozen already.
There won't be any changes any more. Tomorrow is the "official" release, when the 42.2 installation DVD will be published and available for download. You can install RC2 and update to final since a week already, or if you use the NETinstall CD you'll get the final version installed directly. The reason for this "delay" is basically just that the download mirrors are able to sync the DVD, so that there's no overload when many people download it at the same time... PS: RC2 means "Release Candidate 2", which is the last testing version before the final release. RCs come after the Betas, and should normally be not much different any more from the final release (unless critical bugs are found of course). |

Thanks for the clarification. I just see lots of stuff floating about in the Factory mailing list, so I assumed that there are still last minute holes to patch. |
