im having a lot of problems with my kubuntu 16.04 such as color of icons and not being able to update, and i need to reset everything to default immediately
i havnt even been able to do any updates for the past 3 months or so , when i try to i get this message Error loading QML file: file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.discovernotifier/contents/ui/main.qml:23:1: module "org.kde.discovernotifier" is not installed is it possible to reset kde 5 back to original default settings? or is it more advisable to do a complete reinstall of the OS? |

If you want to reset Plasma, follow the instructions here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/109530/h ... to-default I hope that is the problem, because not being able to update points towards something more serious, and probably OS-related rather than desktop related. |

That is from 2011 and for kde4 which is irrelevant to what i need , i need instructions on how to reset all settings for kde5 5.7.5 and my issues aren't at all an OS issue , its different colors of icons and, Error loading QML file: file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.discovernotifier/contents/ui/main.qml:23:1: module "org.kde.discovernotifier" is not installed |

The kde4 folder should still be there. Please check.

The Plasma5/KDE Frameworks5 settings are stored in the standard XDG location, ~/.config/.
But your update problem is not at all related to the settings IMHO, it rather sounds like a broken installation or some package missing. |

Thanks for checking. My apologies that that did not fix your problem. You can try wolfi323's suggestion via the second comment provided at the link I gave you. http://askubuntu.com/questions/109530/h ... ult#291098 |

There were several other suggestions as well in that Ask Ubuntu page. Have you tried them yet?
It has been a while since I reset my Plasma 5 desktop, and I did a direct transition from KDE 4 to Plasma 5 so when I had to reset my desktop during that period, all I remembered was thinking how odd it was to reset the configuration by deleting the kde4 folder. Plasma 5 should be substantially mature by now that any problems you are facing is probably OS-related. What exactly does
output in your terminal? |

yeah, ive tried so many method and none of them worked, although i am using kubuntu 16.04 with backports so it could be the reason im having some bizarre problems
it seems everytime i update , a new problem comes about. So i am seeking solutions to these oddities anyway, heres what i get with sudo apt update
another problem i have is while using chrome, anytime i try to save or upload anything this window pops up. but if i use a different browser like firefox it doesnt happen any solution to fix this ? anyone know what it could be ? ![]() And all my icons are different colors somehow, i dont understand because no matter which icon them i choose in kde , it gives the folders different colors , and the colors aren't inherent to the icon themes i know this because when i try a different desktop enviroment withthe same icon themes, they are all one color and not orange, green purple etc , so this is another reason why i want to reset all settings ![]() |

From your terminal output, I deduce that you have several PPAs that are no longer valid URLs. And they appear to be theme related, and probably there are broken packages which are affecting the general stability of your desktop.
A quick fix to try is to disable all your 3rd party PPAs and try 'sudo apt update' again. Then see if you can upgrade normally. |

after removing the 3rd party ppas , nothing happened, but i can update normally
this is what i get
however doing this still doesn't solve any of my other problems , and hasn't really got me anywhere |

One step at a time ![]() Now you can run your upgrades again, maybe you can now try to reset KDE once more with the steps you already ran through. Just to check, did you run

sudo apt upgrade gives me the following :
looks like its trying to remove stuff

Yes. You can proceed. At this point, we have no other choice, since a broken system is a far worse issue than fixing themes.
So run your upgrades and autoremoves. Hopefully this removes the stuff that is preventing your system from working correctly. PPAs are nice for up to date packages, and stuff that didn't make it to the main Ubuntu repositories. But the reason why they don't make it into the main repositories are the potential for a broken system, which you are experiencing now. |

those broken ones were icons for very old ubuntu versions from way back in 2014,ubuntu 14.04, that i tried to see if they'd work ,and they didnt work in ubuntu 16.04 but i wonder why after i run sudo apt-get update i only get 13 lines, it literally takes a few seconds for it to happen, im used to seeing like 50-80 lines, i couldve sworn there would be a line for each and every program that i have installed. So how do i solve my other kdialog problem now when using chrome? |
