Hi guys,

after login to my desktop the CPU stays about 5 minutes with 100% running with plasma-desktop process and the desktop is absolutely not usable. Is there a way to trace what is causing this. There is just one weather widget open which was fine since ever. I created a new test user and this user is not having any problems. Looks for me like system needs some cleanup or whatever...

running mint 17.1 with kde 4.14

Any ideas?

Thx

What is your CPU? I've been using KDE Neon 5.9 on an Intel i5 with visibly perfect fps most of the time.

Hi, I'm Ivan, a competent computer user (which means geek to most). I run KDE neon Developer when it works and KDE neon User when Developer doesn't work.
Hope I helped you with any problems you may have had :)

Also, any startup applications?

Otherwise, just delete all hidden folders (back them up first in case anything important is in there) under /home/username to reset everything

its a slightly older system but should have enough Power. CPU is an Intel Q6600. The system was running fine before whatever happened.

i saved the .kde/share/config/plasma* files and deleted it (logged out as root) to reset the desktop. After that i relogged in and still had the same issue. So its not the desktop itself. I am not sure what else is using plasma-desktop process. Actually i suspect kmail and will try the same with deleting respecting config files.

Is there really no way to debug plasma-desktop process?

There is probably a way to get logs from plasma-desktop, but IDK how.
Again, just delete (and back up!) any hidden folders under /home/{username}. If the CPU issue remains, then you may need to reinstall your system ( back up and/or dual boot if you need to keep your files!)
