Hello,

recently I have the problem that when I open LibreOffice Writer on my Computer the desktop freezes and after half a minute it crashes so that I have to log in again.

I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed with newest packages. I'm using

KDE Plasma 5.9.2
KDE Frameworks 5.31.0
QT Version 5.7.1
Kernel 4.10.1-1

What can I try to figure out what causes the problem. Because it's very annoying I loose my whole work and have to save very often.
Is there any kind kind of crash protocol to provide some information?

Thank you for your help

Well I'm not sure exactly what caused the problem. But if it requires you to log back in, it might be KWin or X (or Wayland if that's what you use). It probably isn't Plasma, because that usually restarts itself, but it might be.
Run kwin --replace >> file.log, then open LibreOffice and post file.log here.
Also, by the way, KDE has their own office suite, Calligra, but sadly it only lets you save as/open .docx, not .doc.
Hope I helped :)

Hi, I'm Ivan, a competent computer user (which means geek to most). I run KDE neon Developer when it works and KDE neon User when Developer doesn't work.
Hope I helped you with any problems you may have had :)

Thank you very much for your reply.

I executed the command kwin_x11 --replace >> file.log I found out that you need the _x11 in the command.

I started LibreOffice and it crashes perfectly.

This is the output

Code: Select all
OpenGL vendor string:                   Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string:                 Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 515 (Skylake GT2)
OpenGL version string:                  3.0 Mesa 17.0.0
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
Driver:                                 Intel
GPU class:                              Unknown
OpenGL version:                         3.0
GLSL version:                           1.30
Mesa version:                           17.0
X server version:                       1.18.4
Linux kernel version:                   4.10.1
Requires strict binding:                yes
GLSL shaders:                           yes
Texture NPOT support:                   yes
Virtual Machine:                        no

Shouldn't there be more output? Is it possible that it has to do with the Intel driver. I have heard that there are some problems going on with the Intel Kernel driver?

thank you
