VPN software corrupted my KDE desktop

Wed Mar 29, 2017 12:53 pm
On Saturday I installed VPN Unlimited on my Mint 18.0 KDE desktop. I connected to the VPN server and everything was good at first but then I wasn't able to open Konsole, I could open Terminal and ran Top to see that Konsole was using 100% CPU on 1 of the cores. I killed it, but Konsole still wouldn't open after that. So I logged out (didn't disconnect the VPN or close it). One oddity was that during the logoff, I was prompted by Kwallet for password. It was only up for a couple seconds before it closed to finish the logoff. When I went to log in I got "Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation." and couldn't log in. I rebooted but same error. I renamed my home drive, logged into KDE and wondering if the VPN was the issue, I started it, connected to a server, then logged out. Same thing. Now I deleted the home drive, logged back in, ran VPN, connected, then I disconnected and closed the app. I logged out and back in without issue. So it seems that if I don't disconnect and close the app it corrupts something in my profile. Obviously I have to remember to shut it down from now on (what a PITA) but can anyone help me get my original profile working again? Here's my xsessions-errors log:
