I installed kde 4.2 beta in kubuntu from kde-neon. I have an issue with dolphin. In file menu and all it says NoText
Is there any way to fix this. other wise its a great release.

Another issue I have is that kopete is complaining that it cannot find qca ossl plugin.
My kopete in kde 4.1.3 is working fine. How do I point kopete to the qca ossl plugin which is present in /usr/lib/qt4/plugins/crypto/libqca-ossl.so[hr]
I just found out one more issue after locking screen I cannot unlock it as its not accepting any passwords[hr]

I solved kopete problem by doing sudo cp -r /usr/lib/qt4/plugins/crypto/ /opt/kde-nightly/lib/kde4/plugins/

I installed kde 4.2 on kubuntu 8.10, from the nightly repository mentioned above.

I also had the problem with locking the screen and then being unable to unlock it. Luckily I was able to switch to desktop 1 (cntrl+alt+f1) and then killed the "krunner_lock" process.
This version of KDE4 seems MUCH more stable with composite and switching desktops than the old version that came with kubuntu 8.10 was. It also feels a bit faster, although there are still some BIG slowdowns with scrolling the Desktop Folder and putting many widgets on the desktop.

Other Bugs so far:
-Panel: hiding works, sometimes, but sometimes you have to hover over it with the mouse to remind it to hide.
-Panel: if you have hiding turned on, and you turn off composite, it will break the panel (only an outline is left, and when composite is turned back on it fails to un-hide properly). If you turn off hiding, then turn off composite, the panel/hiding will work great.
-No printing config in System Settings, you have to run system-config-printer from the command line.
-If you click on Multimedia in System Settings, it crashes System Settings.
-Cube and a few other cool desktop switchers are available. All are fairly good looking, but tend to run in a very choppy way (on a laptop with the nvidia 8400 which has ALWAYS had problems with KDE4 compositing).
-Panel: adding a panel on top seems to be possible, but adding Widgets to it resulted in widgets which were very small or distorted.
-Panel: the system tray and the panel hiding are not quite synced.. Sometimes the panel hides when it shouldn't.
-Amarok: I'm not using 2.0 because I can't figure out how to make it work with pulseaudio, and only a few media keys on my laptop work despite setting and re-setting them in Amarok as well as System Settings.
-Krunner claims to support Kate sessions, Konsole sessions, recent documents, etc. Besides putting a check in the plugins checkbox, I can't figure out how to access any of these features.
-Kate Sessions is missing from the Widgets menus :(

Overall though, I am impressed, and HAPPY to have my whole small screen back now that panel hiding is sort of working. If this beta is any indication, KDE 4.2 final is going to be sweet!

The reason why unlocking does not work is probably because the appropriate PAM configuration has not been carried out, which would probably mess up the existing system one. I think it has something to do with setsuid and /etc/pam.d/ from my memories of a kdebase install log ( I compile + install KDE svn directly from source )

Regarding the Multimedia module crashing system settings, make sure you have a Phonon backend for 4.2 installed like Xine, GStreamer. Amarok 2 should automatically work with Pulseaudio assuming it was running when you logged into KDE 4, and the Phonon kded module was compiled with support for it.

It would be great if i can see the hole way from Kde 4.2 beta to the 4.2 final.

Is it possible ?

There is a solution posted here: http://groups.google.com/group/amarok-n ... 05b8?pli=1

It basically says to run the following command in the console:

Code: Select all
cp /etc/xdg/menus/kde4-applications.menu ~/.config/menus/applications.menu

Then rerun kbuildsycoca4

Regarding system settings crashing when Multimedia is selected, there is a very simple solution: Install a Phonon backend. Xine or GStreamer will do, but you must have a backend. It cannot use the 4.1 backend, it must be from KDE 4.2 ( Neon repository )

I didn't know how Project Neon worked, I just manually browsed the repository. If you have the kde-nightly-kdesupport package installed, then that should include by definition Phonon because Phonon lives in kdesupport.

If for some reason it is not being included, please prod a Neon packager.

Try running "systemsettings" from the terminal, and posting its output here when it crashes.

Are all your Neon packages of the same version? If they are not then update them, as they could easily be incompatible ( Konqueror 4.1 will not work with the KDE 4.2 Workspace libs for instance )
