I'm looking for a easy way to install a Kde 4.2 beta System.
It would be great if i can see the hole way from Kde 4.2 beta to the 4.2 final. Is it possible ?

why not?
either you could dl and compile from source (too much work) or use a distro that has it available such as openSuse. In Suse it's the kde4 unstable repos (there's 3 - community, extra and desktop) these are for 11.0 http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_11.0/ http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_11.0/ http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... E_Desktop/

You can use the Neon kde-nightly builds by adding this to your sources.list:
and sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install kde-nightly |

What is the install location of kde-nightly? Can I use them with the same account I am using KDE 4.1? Are there different ~/.kde directories for both versions? So many questions. But I just want to be sure something is deleted. ![]() code | cia.vc | donating KDE | wishlist |

It installs to .kde-neon and none of your normal kde settings will be touched. After installing you can log out and select kde nightly as your session type and you'll be able to play around without damaging anything.

Hi!
It seems that this repository is not being updated to the actual SVN., or i am wrong? Cheers. |

I read about some problems with installing the nightly packages on intrepid, so it is probably better to start it with another user.

You get the svn version, but that depends on how often these packages get an update. Uninstalling works the same way like with other software, e.g.
sudo apt-get remove kde-nightly. |

ok..installed... Now I can see that: KDE4 ROCKS...:shade: but I see that in kickoff I don't have applications, and from krunner I can run for e.g. firefox or konsole, but it isn't an application of nightly because I must write all the word and not for e.g. "fir" or "kons"... how can I install the applications? sorry for my english..:-$

Search in adept for nightly packages, there is for nearly every kde module a package, for example kde-nightly-kdebase, kde-nightly-kdepim etc.

hi.
I'm sorry .my english is not so good ![]() i already compiled kde 4.2 (4.1.72) for my debian (just for test),and it take me two days to do it. and now kde 4.2 beta1 (4.1.80)(19-25/11/2008) is out.but i noticed that the svn snapshot is more recent (26/11/2008).then i want to ask you which version is the best to download and compile. and please what is the difference .is there any missing functionality on beta compared to the svn snapshot. |

If you want to try out KDE 4.2 you can use the beta version. There are no more features in the current svn, because it is feature freeze. This means, that no more features are added for KDE 4.2, but the devs are concentrating on bug fixing.

thank you for, msoeken
I start compiling beta version . i mean that you can see that the last fix on (link) for beta is 7days old (only 4fix for 30hours) .however the svn is updated continuously.I have the idea that I can have more functionality with svn snapshot even if it is not very stable.
please. do you have any ideas to make compilation fastest. it make me 2days to compile all packages 5hours only for kdelib and 3 hours for kdebase my cpu : intel centrino 1.7GHZ RAM :512mo
