Panel: Thumbnails missing

I do not know why, but the panel shows no thumbnails.
When I hover with the cursor over the icons (menu, applications, task manager, volume icon, notifications, clock, etc..) not a single thumbnails appears.
In
Task Manager Settings is "Show Tooltips" selected. But apparently it is not enough.
Do you have any idea?
