I know a plethora of these posts have been made, but I can't find one that has worked for my specific problem. I had this problem in windows too, until the fall creators update.

In windows, every time I turned off my display and turned it back on, the desktop icons would auto arrange themselves to the left. Now, in Fedora, when I turn my screen back on after being away for a while, the login screen is black and I have to switch to a terminal and "export display =: 0". Then, the desktop is restarted and all of my desktop icons and widgets auto arrange to the left like in windows. This has only not happened once, when I did not move my icons and widgets back to my preferred location. I tried to reproduce it, but no luck.

I am using the nvidia graphics drivers because with the nouveau drivers, when I right-click, the menu has some strange artifacts that show up in terminal and other places and make it difficult to use. I tried creating an xorg.conf file but it either didn't work or didnt take. I installed the nvidia drivers using Discover, so maybe the nouveau drivers weren't disabled properly. A lot of the directories that people recommend deleting for similar issues do not exist in my file system and the configuration file didn't work, so any advice would be great, or direct me to a topic that can help.

Fedora 27 (this happens in all kernels so far), GTX 980 ti, x99 with Xeon E5 cpu, installed on Samsung evo ssd with no swap, Vizio 4k tv connected via hdmi in the 4k 60hz port.

Thanks for any help!
Josh
