Hi guys, first post here.
I'm trying to get my monitor (Asus MG279Q) running at 144Hz, but in system settings under Displays, it only shows the options Auto or 59.95Hz. I have tried messing with xrandr (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xrandr#Adding_undetected_resolutions) to no avail, but I have no idea if I'm doing it right. The monitor is running from my laptop using a DisplayPort-cable, and works perfectly fine with my Windows 10 computer which has an nVidia GPU. Here are some specs that may be of importance:

xrandr gives me this:
Thanks! :) |

You sure your laptop can run the display port at 144?
What is the res and refresh of the laptop screen? |

According to this thread https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Elitebook-840-G3-Display-Port-maximum-resolution-applies-to/td-p/6038189, it should at least be able to run at 120Hz.

Quoting a public forum thread with a lot of "should" and "might" wording is not fact. You need hard data. Even if the hardware is technically capable, doesn't mean the manufacturer designed it to meet those capabilities, and when configuring the system they can set whatever they think is good enough. No good complaining if the hardware can't do what you expect or want. ![]() Find the specifications from HP for the display port output and see if your laptop supports it. Until you know the facts, the rest is just a waste of resources... |
