system hangs

Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:11 pm
I am having a problem with my desktop system sort of hanging. It will just stop responding. I usually notice it after I have left the system sitting while I go do something around the house. When I come back the screen is black (probably screensaver kicked in) and the system is nonresponsive. At times is has just stopped responding as I was using it. I could move the mouse and the cursor moves but clicking anything does not do anything. When the screen is black moving the mouse, typing on the keyboard - nothing brings the system back to life. However, I can ssh in from my laptop and get in. I can run commands (top and iotop) and get a response. However I cannot get the desktop to recover. The only way I can use it again is to reboot the pc. I have looked in messages and I don't see anything that is unusual. I have copied a part of the messaged file around the time of the most recent hang and uploaded it to the cloud. Here is a link to it https://drive.google.com/open?id=1HV3_B ... tlmZhTfc3W
I don't know how to figure out what is happening. It looks like the underlying os is working but the user interface is hung. I am running Fedora 26 64 bit with all of the updates installed. Here is a link to my hardware configuration - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ezrnl ... nWIFUj9ZO8

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have posted this problem on the Fedora forum but no help was forthcoming.

Could this be an x11 problem? Should I post this problem there?

Thank you
