Hello
I have 7 data partitions on 4 hard disks. The problem is they are all belonging to ROOT which makes the intertransfer unnecessary complicated. So I would change all of these partitions as owner «arran».

Main reason is that I use parallel 2 or 3 KDE based operating systems, at present 14.04, 18.04 and KDE neon. Once the two latter are working well, I delete this partition to use the space for another distro. But I want to have access, like to the Mozilla products, from one source, avoiding all synchronising.

I am the only person who uses the the computer and I am aware that transferring the data away from Root might be a bit dangerous.

Is anybody willing to explain in detail how I can achieve this?

It sounds like you want to use the chown command. This lets you change both the owner and the group associated with one or more files and directories. If these partitions are truly just user data that you want to access as your user without needing root privileges then you can use chown to recursively set all files to your user. If the data IS NOT all user data and some things should be owned by root then you should be more selective about what you change. Here is a good article explaining what chown is and how to use it - https://www.howtoforge.com/linux-chown-command/. Tread lightly. Hope that helps.

Thanks Eric. Your posting and the link have helped and is now implemented.
