Why does the composer slow down game performance?
I'd like to get a purely technical answer about the causes of this problem. Is there any correction perspective for this issue? ![]() |

Do you mean the compositor?
It is using your graphics card to create the effects, blur, translucency, and the like. When you run some games, both are using the GPU at the same time. Many games, such as in Steam, disable the compositor when they run, and I think anything that runs full-screen may also disable it (I may be wrong on this.) If you have an older or weaker graphics card, or have drivers with poor 3d support (like Nouveau on Nvidia) you will notice the performance hit if the specific game does not turn off the compositor. You can manually toggle the compositor off and on using alt-shift-f12 You can create custom window or application rules to turn it off for a particular game - right click on the title bar, go to More Actions, then Special Application Settings. On the last tab, you can disable the compositor for this program. When you run the game again, it will turn it off, and when the window is closed, it will be turned back on.

Ok but in the windows 10 the the games runs very fine with transparency enable and in the KDE we must disable this feature. I strongly believe that it needs some correction in the way the compositor deals with games. Particularly I consider a Plasma bug. ![]() |

It depends on the card and the drivers, not necessarily Plasma. The GPU makers spend all their time and $$ on Windows drivers, and little for Linux. I have no issue with this on my Intel graphics or my AMD card, though I don't play games often on the Intel laptop as Intel's linux drivers are not great for gaming. I never have to disable the compositor, though I think it is disabled.when I run a steam game as they normally run full-screen. |

Zotac GTX 680 AMP. I run all games in full screen in the windows. "The GPU makers spend all their time and $$ on Windows drivers, and little for Linux." ok but with compositor off the steam game runs great so I cant believe that its a problem in the driver but in the way as the compositor handle with the application. ![]() |
