gnome like widgets

Mon Aug 05, 2019 4:31 am
hello all! I'm a recent refugee from Gnome to Plasma 5 on Manjaro. I'm really miss a couple of gnome behaviors and would like help replicating them.

1. I'm so used to the way the top right widget expands and has options underneath it for shut down, restart, wifi, bluetooth, easy access to settings, etc. instead of having a single context menu for each of those things.

2. I miss the gnome full-screen application search when pressing the super key that also shows the various different applications that I have open before I search. I've sort of replicated it with Application Dashboard, but this widget has no application switching, just searching for additional applications to open.

Any good solutions to change these? Thanks so much!

Well, as I understand it those things are pretty gnome-specific. Plasma follows a little more traditional layout with separate widgets for separate functions.
1. You might be interested at least in the User Switcher widget which drops-down/up with options to switch users as well as exit options. Wifi, bluetooth and other settings will necessarily be provided by separate widgets (which should be included in the System Tray - if not they can be added from the System Tray Settings).

2. I think this may be the closest you'll get is having the two separate views for the open applications vs. launcher. You can review available widgets on store.kde.org, via Get New Widgets, but I don't think there's one that combines those views like Gnome does.

Thanks airdrik, that is exactly my current configuration, but I was hoping there was something similar.

What about something similar to the Gnome application search/switcher that Gnome users see when pressing the super key? I can't stand the Application Dashboard widget... it is slow to accept input when I start searching for an app, and it doesn't show the apps I currently have running like Gnome does.
