Hello Community,
We have a SuSE Enterprise Server 12 SP4. We never had KDE installed on it. We recently installed KDE Packages and now I am trying to start kde using startkde at userlevel but it gives errors. History of KDE installation, I have installed following patterns using Zypper kde_plasma kde_utilities . I am newbie at KDE usage. List of KDE packages,
Now whenver I start startkde , it gives bunch of messages (alongwith errormessages) and then a windows pops out which basically says that krunner could not be started. I close this windows and then comes the similar error for ksmserver. When I close this windows , then in the backgroud are some more errors and finally nothing starts. Here are the whole errors, If someone can atleast point me out in correct direction I would be highly obliged. Thanks in advance.
Regards, Admin |

I am a bit puzzled at the selection of packages, there is a mix of KDE4 and kf5 libraries, but might be due to your version of the server.
First of all, you do not install "KDE", as KDE is the community, I guess you wanted to install Plasma 5, which is the desktop. I am not really familiar with Opensuse or YAST, which I haven't used in years, but isn't there an actual metapackage to install the Plasma desktop? If you want to start from the command line, plasmashell is the command you are looking for. I also suggest you have a look at our wikis, both https://userbase.kde.org and https://community.kde.org hold a lot of useful information. And of course, the Opensuse wiki and forums are really the place you might want to go first, they are far more familiar with your setup.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
