So I downloaded the tar.bz2 archive for the ESR version of Firefox and copied the extracted files to /opt. Then I made a desktop configuration file for the firefox executable using KMenuEdit. I have the entry in the Application Menu under the Internet category and in Favorites. But no matter from where I try to pin this icon to the taskbar it doesn't get pinned. I have tried from the Application Menu and using the taskbar icon that shows up when the browser is in use. I won't get pinned. The thing to note is that other applications will get pinned just fine.

OS: KDE Neon 5.17 with KDE Plasma 5.17.4.

This is my desktop entry file:

Code: Select all
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Firefox ESR
Exec=/opt/firefox/firefox --class FxTest
Terminal=false
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Icon=firefox-symbolic
StartupWMClass=FxTest

Hadn't tried this before. Right click and add to panel adds the icon to the taskbar.

It seems you can simply drag&drop the icon from Desktop to Toolbar.
