When I log in to kde it just sits on the splash screen. This is the screen with the light bulb and circular loading icon.
Everything worked flawlessly for months. I made *no changes whatsoever* to system configuration. I installed nothing. I did not have any auto updates to kernel or kde. Yesterday I booted up and this happened. The system is still running. Pressing the power button on my machine pops up the log out dialog, but I cannot interact with anything visually. If I hover the mouse in the upper left corner, I get hover text for the clipboard, and left clicking then displays a list of clipboard history. No further interactions work. My problem appears to be identical to this: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread. ... perational But the solution there made no difference. I updated mesa drivers, then the radeon drivers. Then I updated every package. I uninstalled the KDE pattern. I installed a different KDE pattern. I updated every KDE package. Same behavior every time. I can ctrl+alt+F1 etc to tty. I can ctrl+alt+backspace to kill the window manager and return to the login screen, with the same results if I log in again. I can log in to openbox, lxde, etc. Nothing happens when I run konsole the kde preferences from the openbox menu. This is quite infuriating, to say the least. How can I fresh reinstall KDE? I have been haphazard about trying to fix this issue but nothing has affected this behavior. I have not checked logs etc yet because I don't want to troubleshoot this issue. There should have been no way for it to happen. I made no system changes whatsoever between boots. I don't have automatic updates enabled. I don't have time to spend on this. I just want it to work. I want to blow away the whole KDE without ruining my OpenSUSE installation because I have Lutris working perfectly. I don't care about any of the KDE-specific applications or settings. I realize that some of those might be contradictory requirements. What are my options? I'm running OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. What packages/patterns should I have installed for a desktop? |
