Hi,
I started using Activities and indeed find them an improvement for my workflow over using tons of different Virtual Desktops: now, I can simply have a handful of VD for each activity while at the same time, being able to clearly separate my environments (Personal vs Work). But there is a missing feature - or shortcoming - with regards the way the default applications are handled when using Activities, and that is that the system-wide default applications will always launch upon certain user actions, i.e. when opening an URL: https://imgur.com/a/MN4VVIK 1. For my Personal activity, I use (among other apps) Firefox, which it is also set as the default system web browser 2. For my Work activity, I use Brave (FF was giving me problems with some services I need to access for work) 3. Whenever I click on an URL link when from my Work activity, KDE will inevitably open that link in Firefox KDE needs a feature in order to allow the user to define what are the default applications based on each Activity. It is only by this way that Activities will be truly useful in providing kind of isolated environments to easily switch between subject matters. As of now, if I'm from my Work activity, whenever I need to open a web link I have to manually copy it into the correct web browser to prevent KDE switching to my Personal activity and opening that link in Firefox (this is actually the lesser evil as I prefer to open work stuff in my personal browser if I mistakenly click on a link, than doing otherwise, and have that web action logged into my work's account history). Please file a wish on https://bugs.kde.org for this feature.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
