Copy to clipboard failures

Wed May 13, 2020 12:06 am
Hello, everyone,

I can often not copy text to the clipboard since upgrading my system from Fedora 31 to Fedora 32, along with all the new KDE bits that go with Fedora 32.

My system in question is running KDE Plasma version 5.18.5, KDE Frameworks version 5.68.0, and Qt version 5.13.2. As mentioned above, my OS is Fedora 32 KDE Spin.

I have searched the web on this problem and have not found any reports of a similar issue. I have also asked about this problem in the #fedora-kde IRC channel, and no one there at the time had heard anything about this sort of issue. A couple folks at the #fedora-kde did have a few ideas, though they unfortunately did not lead to a proper resolution for my situation.

Detail on the problem:
* I copy text in any application -- Firefox, Vivaldi, Kwallet, KWrite, Mattermost, or any application -- and the text often does not get sent to the clipboard. When I try pasting after copying, the previously copied text (or nothing at all) often appears.
* The problem happens no matter how I try copying to the clipboard -- keyboard short-cut, right-click and select copy from a menu, or even a "copy to clipboard" link.
* The issue occurs intermittently. I can reproduce it most of the time, while copy sometimes works perfectly. I do not know what the triggers are to make it work or not work.

Might anyone here have any ideas on how I might be able to resolve this issue? I suppose it may be a configuration issue, as I've not seen evidence that anyone else has the same problem, but I do not see anything about my configuration that could be causing it.

Thank you for any help or insight you may be able to provide on this!

maybe renaming ~/.kde/share/config/klipperrc could help, this is the only configuration file I could find for the clipboard. Normally a new one is created, then you can compare

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Good idea!

On Fedora systems, the Klipper configuration file is actually at ./.config/klipperrc. I've moved it, will monitor the situation, and will report back on the results.

Thank you for your help!

Moving the Klipper configuration file appears to have solved the problem!

I moved the old Klipper configuration file a few days ago and have not had a problem with the copy function since.

Thanks for your help! :)
