Logitech m720 mouse

Sat May 16, 2020 1:36 am
I would like to know if there is a way to modify all the extra buttons of this mouse as you can do on Windows with the Logitech Options software. I have tried piper but it doesn't recognize my device (though technically it is supported). I have tried to remap some buttons with the global shortcuts but it doesn't work. The buttons work fine, but I would like them to fulfill different functions. Any ideas?

Thanks!

If Logitech doesn't provide a driver for Linux, then there is very little chance. Check the options you have in the System Settings -> Hardware -> Input Devices -> Mouse section, usually it has all the options for recognized hardware that is available with the current drivers.

Don't blame Linux, this is entirely up to the manufacturers to provide Free Software drivers than run under Linux.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I use a MS 5-button scroll mouse and while the left/right keys are not designated in the mouse settings, they work fine for page forward/back. If that feature works, re-assigning should be available, but I can't find where either.

if yours is the Triathlon bluetooth mouse, the piper software can detect it, mostly, if you modify a config, or create a new custom one following info from libratbag's github. I did not get anything to change with it.

There is always the 'hard' way

Yes, I don't blame linux, it's a shame they won't make their drivers available for everybody. I can't find the settings I want in the Input Settings. I want to do the same as Compactico, remap the backward and forward buttons (I NEVER use them and I could find other better uses for them). What I don't understand is why Piper does not recognize my device, it is listed on the website's compatibility list. And I know there's a 'hard' way. I have already looked at that post where you can remap from terminal.. but I'm not an experienced Linux user and I'm afraid to mess up my mouse and then have to reinstall everything or sth like that. I guess I prefer to stay on the safe side and leave the mouse as it is. Thank you anyways for your help!

if piper doesn't see you mouse it is probably a mismatch version between piper and libratbag. when i faced this problem installing libratbag from this PPA solved it.
