Hi
This is a bit odd. I've set up some desktop links to folders and have changed their icons to some custom icons. When I log into the session the custom icons have been replaced with the default system icons. If I select the properties of the link it's still showing my custom icons, then when I "OK" the properties window my custom icons are then showing on the desktop as intended. Then, when I after logging out of the session the next time I log in the icons are again replaced by the defaults. Refreshing the desktop (F5) has no effect one way or the other. When looking in the files system using Dolphin the folder icons are as I want them to be. I've tried storing my icon files (.png) in various locations but this makes no difference. They are currently in a new subfolder of /usr/share/icons/ Any ideas what's going on here? My system details are :- Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0 Qt Version: 5.12.8 Kernel Version: 5.4.0-52-generic OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 2 × Intel® Pentium® CPU G840 @ 2.80GHz Memory: 3.7 GiB of RAM Thanks Samo |

Do you save your session on logout?
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

If you meant the desktop session setting is "Restore previous session", then yes, that is set.
Just to make sure I changed it to "Restore manually saved session", clicked Apply then changed it back to "Restore previous session" and applied and OK'd that. But, I updated all the icons, logged out and when I logged back in they were reset to the default again. Did you mean anything else? I've just noticed that my laptop, which is also the same version of Kubuntu and KDE, also does exactly the same thing... so two different machines with the same issue. Is it just me? S |

I can't really say as I don't use Desktop icons at all. I have modified the colour of several Folder icons in Dolphin, those stay put.
Maybe it is your icons that are the problem. What are the permissions? Usually icons come in sets and need to respect a certain format and size. You can't just use arbitrary images instead.

Thanks,
I have tried this with system icons and the same thing happens, so it 's nothing to do with the icon files. Sam |

Something like that happened to me, how could you do in the end? I have not been able to solve it.

It's not only the custom icons that reset to default, it's the wallpaper, and the choice of desktop if folder has been selected - it resets to the home folder. The size and alignment of icons also resets to default. The fault is random. Sometimes the settings 'stick', sometimes they don't.
My wife's account (using a different wallpaper from mine) is affected as well as mine. In her case, the wallpaper had been used for years under 18.04 LTS. (Plasma version: 5.18.5; Frameworks versi5-8400ion: 5.68.0; QT version: 5.12.8; Kernel version: 5.4.0.58-generic; processors 6*Intel Core i5-8400@2.8 GHz) The desktop is fundamentally unstable. |

Remove:
~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc Reboot and start customisation again. |

Hi
This didn't resolve this posted issue but it gave me a starter and I now have a resolution, although it's a bit of bodge (I can't think of a better word. If you don't know what it means its British English slang for "..... you make it or mend it in a way that is not as good as it should be. "). Anyway - Right click on the desktop and select "Configure Desktop" - Go to Icons and ensure "Preview thumbnails" is selected - Click on "Configure Preview Plugins..." and on the resulting list unselect everything apart from Folders. I needed to do this three or four times for it to be saved. From then on it retains the icon and works as expected. So, there's still something wrong with the desktop but I've got it working as I wanted. Sam |

Removing the file I mentioned fixed a similar problem for me (Wallpaper reverting to default on every boot)
Before that I locked everything so they didn't change. From a Terminal: Lock: qdbus org.kde.plasmashell /PlasmaShell evaluateScript "lockCorona(true)" Unlock: qdbus org.kde.plasmashell /PlasmaShell evaluateScript "lockCorona(false)" https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comment...asma_518_beta/ |

Thanks for these suggestions! I'm testing them and we'll see what happens. My reversion problems were not tied to booting - logout and login, without rebooting, sometimes triggered them.

I'm not sure if you guys have already found fixes but I found this helpful back when I had this problem, I hope it helps.
